Walter Vasconcelos

My name is Walter Vasconcelos, I am an illustrator and designer.
I live in Rio de Janeiro / Brazil. In the last years, I have been working for several newspapers and magazines in my country, and also for publications in the USA and several other countries.
I’m really enthusiastic about editorial illustration, for if you have liberty to create, heaven is the limit.Ink spots, scribbles, old papers, graphic fonts, old photos and images are totally revisited in my graphic vocabulary.


I use Illustrator and Photoshop, but I work for my drawings not to have a “computer-made” face. I search the imperfect trace, the gesture, the flaw… as if the sketch and the final art could share the same space.
I like the idea that an illustration must be “read”, deciphered, I don’t think of this as a kind of “hermetism”, but rather as a way to preserve a “dynamics of creation”.
It is very good sometimes to break the rules and build your own Universe.
